How to wash your towels

Washing towels might seem easy. But there are some things you should avoid if you want to maintain the quality and feel. Let us guide you to cleaner, softer and fluffier towels.

WASH AT THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE
Coloured and white towels have different recommended washing temperatures. If you wash your coloured towels in water that is too hot, you risk fading the colour or creating a stiff texture that doesn’t feel good on your skin. White towels can withstand higher temperatures but it’s best to wash them on lower temperatures. We recommend that you wash your Mille Notti towels at 60 degrees.

DON’T OVERFILL YOUR WASHING MACHINE
It’s easy to overfill your washing machine. It can feel effective at the time, but your laundry needs to be able to move around to get properly clean. It’s best to fill it sensibly. Make sure you remove your towels as soon as the machine has finished so they don’t get smelly or mouldy.

DON’T USE FABRIC SOFTENER
Even though fabric softener smells good, it’s not a good idea. Fabric softener builds up on terry and ruins the material’s fibres and ability to absorb water in the long run.

USE JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF WASHING POWDER
Your towels won’t get cleaner if you use more washing powder than you need. Too much washing powder means the washing machine can’t get the washing clean, so the remaining washing powder will stick to the towels. Use the right amount of washing powder for the sake of your towels and the environment.

WASH YOUR TOWELS SEPARATELY
Did you know you shouldn’t wash towels with your clothes? This is because they have different textures. You can even damage the fibres of your clothes by washing them with towels that are more robust.

STRETCH OUT!
Don’t forget to stretch out your towels after you have washed them. This keeps the shape and quality. When you’ve stretched them out you can dry them.

DRY YOUR TOWELS TOO MUCH OR NOT ENOUGH
Just right is best. If you dry your towels too much, you risk ruining the fibres. If you don’t have time to let them dry sufficiently you risk them getting mouldy. Always hang up your towel after you have finished using it.

TUMBLE DRY AND HANG TO DRY
If you want soft and fluffy towels, you can tumble dry it on medium heat. If you can hang up your towels to dry, you can tumble dry them quickly, then hang up to dry. Better for your towels and the environment.

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR HAIR AND FACE PRODUCTS THAT CAN DISCOLOUR YOUR TOWELS
Some face and hair products can discolour your towles. So keep an eye out for products that can discolour your towels – for example acne products. Don’t wipe off makeup with your towels, as doing so can stain them permanently. Use separate makeup removing cloths to wipe off your makeup. If you do get some makeup on your towels, use stain remover before washing them.
